Ethnographic expeditions are one of the most important sources of preserving traditional culture. As a result, monuments of material and spiritual culture were studied.

On the basis of a memorandum with the Omsk branch of the Institute of Archeology and Ethnography of the SB RAS, a joint ethnographic expedition was conducted to study the traditions of the Kazakhs of the border region.

In 2017, the staff of the department to collect and systematize the non-cultural cultural heritage of the Kazakh people conducted a complex ethnographic expedition in the Akmola and South Kazakhstan regions. As a result, 33 kyu, 13 lyrical songs, 4 kinds of jarapazan, 1 zhar-zhar, 1 synsu, 2 epic poems, 10 terme were handed over to the South Kazakhstan region, which were transferred to the “Ruhani Mura” Foundation of the Research Institute "Halyk Kazynasy"of the National Museum of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The technology of cooking 10 forgotten dishes in the South-Kazakhstan region was also restored.
